Why can I no longer type the £ sign, as it disappears?

I downloaded the Ebay app for my girlfriends new Galaxy S6, as I have been adding apps etc gradually over the last few days. When I came to sign in, it won't let me use the £ sign, which I need as its part of the p/word. The £ sign is there until I start to type the Ist letter, then it disappears. I've checked the settings for the keyboard ie UK but cannot see the problem. Texting is also fine...no problems there. I have uninstalled the app but still the same. I have set every setting related to the keyboard, the same as my S6, but no different.
