When I delete messages from my Gear S2, they randomly also are deleted from my phone??

My MMS messages and regular messages are sometimes, but not always, removed from my phone when I delete them from my watch. It doesn't always do this - just very randomly. I've had multiple issues with my Gear ever since I got it and have gone to 2 different At&t stores and had several techs working with me to try to figure things out. One tech said I had to have my messages set to "backup and sync" in order for the messages to go to my phone. I'm wondering if this is the problem?? Another tech told me that was not true and to disable that. When I tried to disable, I got a "warning" that doing so would prevent any messages being sent to a "wearable". I love the concept of the Gear - but not so much if it isn't going to work right . Any help or suggestions would sure be appreciated. TIA

Perhaps you are alternating between deleting the message in some situations and just dismissing the notification in others.
