My Galaxy Note5 will not turn on after charging it overnight. If I hold down the power button an X appears at the bottom left corner of the screen but nothing further happens. I have tried removing the SIM card and holding the power button down for 20 secs but neither work.

Welcome to AC! Press "Thanks!" if I helped you!
Try powering your Note 5 in the recovery mode.
Make sure that the device is off.
Hold home + power + vol down.
When it boots up and you see the android guy let go of the power button.
Then navigate with vol buttons (up and down) and factory reset your phone.
Warning: you will lose any data that's not backed up!
