Should I buy a new phone or wait?

AC Question

I currently have a Nexus 4, which has served me well for a long time (I got it when it was new), but is now having major issues: Battery life depletion (40% to 0% in the space of minutes), sudden freezes, inexplicable glitches, lost texts (or never-sent texts, even when I have a signal), etc.
I can only assume that it's just old, and time for a replacement.
I want a Nexus, because I like Google's no-frills utilitarian iteration of Android.
The obvious choice would be to get the Nexus 6P, which currently seems to be Google's flagship phone.
However, there appear to be rumours that a new Nexus phone (and Android system) is slated for a Fall 2016 release.

In short: I want the newest phone (and version of Android), but I don't want to get screwed if my phone doesn't last until then.

What do you think? Is the risk worth the reward?
