Why have some sounds gone almost inaudible on my phone?

I have a Samsung Galaxy 5 and have been playing Ingress for over 2 years. Recently parts of the voice sounds have gone almost inaudible.
eg: I hear "XM reserves ... percent" with the ... really faint.
I've got no idea what sound setting changed - please help?

The same happens with some words when I create fields. Its as if a particular voice type is purposefully turned low somewhere but I have no idea where or how to fix.

Hi, is the volume turned fully up on your device? have you checked in the apps settings to see if there is a volume control within it?
