Tap the chosen photo when viewing it in the Photos app. Several options will appear at the bottom, one of which is Edit, represented by a pencil icon. Editing a photo allows you to make changes to it. When you are satisfied with the result, tap Save.
Various photo editing apps in the Play Store give you greater editing options than the built-in Edit feature, should you wish to download. In that case, editing is done through those apps instead of in the Photos app.
