How do I stop incoming texts from opening my phone?

Everytime I get a text it lights my phone up and if it's in my pocket I end up opening apps or making pocket dials. I only want the pHine to open when I contold it.. seems I've tried everything I can think of but I've obviously missed something.... very frustrating

Try settings, notifications, advanced in upper right corner, select messages and then turn on "Hide on lock screen"
Mine is off and I don't have this issues but if you have done the obvious like "Keep screen turned off" in the display settings the only other option is to turn the notifications off for messages completely.
