How can I stop my phone from turning off and freezing?

Anytime I try to use an app, even messaging, my LG phone will freeze and show the LG "life's good" screen, but it won't completely turn off or return to normal, it just freezes like that. When I try the power button it won't turn it off and when I take the battery out and try to turn it on after placing the battery back in it still won't turn back on. The LG screen return and it stays like that. Although, taking the battery out worked the first two times it hasn't worked since.

Hi, what LG phone do you have? are you able to boot the device into recovery mode when it powers up?

Welcome to Android Central! I would also try booting into Safe Mode, to see if the problem is being caused by a 3rd party app you installed.
