So I had a friend root my GS3 from wind a while back but since I got a new phone, I decided to restore the S3 to factory default, and when it rebooted, it was stuck on the Samsung logo. It tried following various tutorials online on how to use Odin and such, and I tried installing the stock ROM twice and each time would bring the same result. Right now in download mode the screen says:

    ODIN MODE (red font)
    PRODUCT NAME: SGH-T999V
    CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
    SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
    QUALCOM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE (grey font)
    Warrenty Bit: 1 (red font)
BOOTLOADER AP SWREV: 2 (grey font)

and then the android symbol and downloading... do not turn off target!!

    is this still salvagable?

You are not flashing to proper firmware while using Odin. Get the latest firmware from sammobile.com.
