Why am I gettting two different notifications for same message

When I get a text message, it gives me one alert and then approximately 20 seconds later, I get a different one that I've also used before. And I turned on the repeat alert yesterday and can't turn it off. That setting in my phone currently says NEVER. HELP!!!

Boot into recovery and wipe system cache. Go back and see if you are able to turn the setting off now.

This can also happen if you install a 3rd party SMS app. The default SMS app is notifying you, in addition to the downloaded app. If this is the case, go into the app your don't want to use, open its Settings, and set Notifications to "Off".
