Samsung Won't Play Videos

[AC Question]

I have a Samsung Galaxy Prevail LTE: using Android 4.4 KitKat. It won't play videos. When I select a video file, I get: "no apps can perform this action"

(I have VLC installed, which plays these videos, but only through the app itself, not when selecting a video file in File Manager).

I want VLC set as the default, but the display doesn't allow me to select any apps to complete this action.

I have "Reset App Preferences" in the Applications Manager, hoping that would prompt the phone to display a choice of apps when selecting a video, but this wasn't the case.

Any ideas?

Hi, within settings - apps - all apps - when you select an app you can clear the defaults, have you tried that? then when you open the video it should ask you what default app you want to select?
