How can i quickly turn off active display when im sleeping?

I put my phone in sleep mode and it wirelessly charges on my bedside table. The active display starts showing notifications in the middle of the night and lights up periodically all night. This is from non-native apps like yahoo mail. How can I either toggle off easily the active display without digging through the settings, or make all apps recognize the sleep settings?
