missing sound files

Just so we're on the same page, sound files as in ring tones or notifications sound which were all pre-installed from the factory? If you referring to sounds that you've installed or transfered to the device, then you may have placed the files in the wrong location. Also, if you didn't save the phone settings to Google drive or onto your MicroSD card and the device is shut down or loses power etc.. your files wouldn't be there.. This is why and upon registration and activating the device Google/Android ask want to create a back up of your files/folders via Google cloud/drive etc..
