Galaxy S4 Security Pin

My son has put a pin on his device and forgot it now can't get in his phone. Is there a way to get around this?

It may be possible to reset the PIN from another device via Android Device Manager or any other device management account he has.
Also, deliberately entering several wrong PINs may lead to a prompt to use the Google Account details to gain access.
