How do you know when you need to replace the battery vs closing programs that drain the battery?

Check your battery usage stats after a day's use. Do they seem normal?

Defiantly, check your stats.. leaving your phone on all night and in an area of your home where the phone can or could get updates constantly will drain the batteries life. Apps drain everything in the back ground.. so when you're not suing the device make sure everything has been shut down while your device is charging.. Plus if you didn't allow for the maximum charge time (3-5 hours) first charge.. you could have shorten the lifespan of your battery.
