Why Can't I just view the picture?

Ok so ok so....I am a verizon wireless customer using the verizon message plus app. My friend sent a pic which I did receive. Problem is when I want to view it fully, I have to save it to the gallery. In the past I used to just be able to click on the pic to view it. It goes to another screen whereas the pictures appear at the bottom like a slide show. No bueno!! Is there a way to fix this? I don't want to save it or download it. I just want to view it and be done with it. Please assist this is driving me insane. I used to use textra(when i was with another carrier) and even sampled it now(with verizon) and the pic opens up fully for me to view without having to save it. And before u ask...I like the features of message + which is why I am no longer using textra :-D
