How long does it take for a PC to detect large files on a phone?

A

AC Question

I have some large files I want to transfer from my phone (XiaoMi MI4) (about 800MB to 1.5GB each) to my PC, but most of the files don't show up on Windows Explorer, and only one is shown at half size. The files are still in my phone, undamaged. What can I do?

It takes a while depending on the quality of your usb cable (some are charge only and do not sync) and if your phone is set up to be seen as external storage.
With files that big, I have found that you can't copy / paste/ move them and then go back and try and move other files. The phone can only do one process at a time. That being said, the computer should still see the files.

I assume it is on the phone and not an external memory card.

You could purchase an OTG cable or usb supported drive, if your phone supports it.
For instance these are two examples:

Before trying that, have you tried using dropbox or google drive to transfer the files to the cloud and then sync with your machine?

There is also a program called wifi explorer that I love, but with those size files will take a long time to transfer.

All dependent on your device model and file types/ extensions you are trying to move.
Please provide that and the os and we can move forward.

I'm assuming that you're using the UBS power cable to transfer your data/images from your phone tot he computer and in doing so, you've search every possible location (internal & external) shown on within the devices folder as located in the file manager.. Also, make sure that your computer is set up to "unhide" folders & files..
