    I have a nexus 5 with android 6.0.1 (september patch), not rooted, and a couple of days ago I suddently lost the ability to use mobile data. Nothing special happened at that point in time.

    What I have done so far:

    1. Tested that my sim card works in another phone.
    2 Tested that another sim card doesn't work in my phone.
    3. Mobile data is turned on.
    4. APN settings is just like the carrier has told me during support.
    4b. The same APN settings work for another phone with the same carrier.
    4c. Resetting the APN settings doesn't change anything.
    5. The phone has been reset to factory.
    6. The carrier logs online stopped reporting data usage, confirming I don't have data access.

    Status:
    7. Mobile network is UMTS, Mobile network statis is Disconnected.
    8. Phone and SMS works.
    9. I have had the phone for about 22 months from new.
    10. I do have some very brief disconnects from the mobile net, but no other problems with the phone.

    Am I looking at a hardware failure or is there something I can try before giving up?

    No I have a monthly plan and I have had that one for more than a year now.

    K just wondering cause the way you described how you approached this tells me or sounds like a pre-paid plan.. in this case and because of what you've said.. you may have to contact your provider. have you checked you account to see if you've exceeded your data usage limit?.. I mean are you on an unlimited text, voice and data plan?

    Yes, and I have checked and I still have about 10GB data left. My sim card does work fine in another phone, so the problem is not the plan.
