What does the little icons at the top of the screen mean

What do the icons at the top of my screen mean?

The icons on the left could be notifications or icons that show a particular app is running. The icons on the right depict system apps. You can normally go to app settings and disable notifications in a particular app and the icon on the left will not show up.
