Quick settings interferes with phonecalls

Is there anyway to disable the quick settings menu/functionality on Android?

I have a Sony Xperia XA running Marshmallow and every time I try to answer a phonecall, the quick settings menu seems to slide down which blocks the call screen.
it's probably just clumsiness on my part but it seems like the screen is over-sensitive. is there any way to remove the quick settings menu altogether?

Do you have "glove mode" enabled on the device? That could cause issues like that...

No - there's no glove mode on the XA.
