Android file size limit

[AC Question]

I recently purchased a nexus 6p after owning an Apple 5s. I was surprised when the video I was recording stopped at about 3.8 GB. My Apple 5s never did this. When I posted this question on the Nexus forum responders said that it was due to the Android 32bit system. Today I was talking to an owner of a Samsung 4 who said she never had a file size problem. Is the nexus 6p file size limit a characteristic of Android or is it just due to the nexus 6p system?
