    Nexus 5x running Android 7.0
    The phone was ringing ok.
    Last week there was a update to 7 apps including some google ones.
    I am not totally sure if the problem happened before the updates or after.
    There is no bullet to drag to the right. It simply does not exist.
    Putting my finger on the volume line does nothing. There is no green dot to drag.

    Under Settings -> Sound, check your Sound Profile setting and ensure that it is not set to Mute/Silent/Vibrate.

    I did what you suggest. I eventually had to do a factory reinstall. All works perfectly.

    Welcome to Android Central! Glad you got it working again. In the future, try a cache partition wipe first, since it can often help with various issues, and doesn't erase any personal data: How to Wipe the Cache Partition on Nexus 5X
