How can I boot my archos platinum 55 into recovery mode?

I have rooted my phone but it seems to have made my boot up time a lot slower. I now want to remove root and reset my phone to factory settings. Can anyone give any insight?

I tried going to settings and factory reset but when my phone turned back on it said ''Update failed, this should be a temporary issue, we'll retry later''.

You won't lose root access by factory resetting, you need to flash the device with its correct firmware

Could you describe how I could flash my device with the appropriate ROM then? What is the appropriate rom and how can I do it? I am a newbie so

Thanks, I have downloaded and followed the instructions on the archos site and it was going well until I tried to reboot and then it wouldn't boot up again and was stuck on the android boot up stage. I then tried to turn it on and off again and plugged it into my computer and then it said ''update failed'' after I managed to turn it back on. Can you give any insight?

When you reflash a ROM, the first boot-up can take over 10 minutes, so don't kill the booting after a few minutes or you'll be left with an unusable phone and have to flash the ROM again.
