My Oneplus One phone was destroyed on a rainy hike, and I've just bought a new Oneplus 3. I've installed Whatsapp, which recognises my backup (of 522mb in size) but won't restore it. It gives the error message “Unable to restore your chats from this backup” and then offers only to restore a very old backup.

    Is the file corrupted?

Another thing that I wonder may be a problem:

When my old phone broke, I was using a different data only sim card in it, as I was travelling in Japan. Would this affect the backup?

Any help would be really most appreciated.

    Thank you.

Hi, it sounds like the data didn't properly back up. It could be to do with the travelling as most data gets backed up when you have a WiFi signal.
