Why does my stock browser download a .htm instead of opening a page?

AC Question

I tried to open a webpage (a german online newspaper) today, but after loading it, the browser suddenly closes the window and starts downloading a .htm file. Anyone got a clue why/ how to stop that? The .htm file is empty and it´s name is the exact time (e.g. 2016-10-17-17-02-36) i opened the page. It´s really annoying to open the page, start reading and having to reopen it seconds later!!!

BTW, i´m german, so sorry for any spelling/grammar mistakes :)

Just because it ends in html doesn't mean it will open in the browser as a link. It depends upon the server settings as to how the file is delivered to you. Technical speaking, if its set to be sent as an octet stream (just a raw stream of bits) it will *download*. If it's set to as filetype:html, then yes it will be opened in your browser.
