I am unfortunately an absolute novice to the world of tablets, SMS, etc, so please be patient. I would very much appreciate any help, but without too much jargon or tech talk that I simply would not understand.

This is the situation: For one month I will be living in temporary lodging in The Netherlands, without any sort of telephonic device (no landline, no mobile, no smartphone, and no telephone account or number--you get the idea). I do, however, have an unrooted Nexus 7, running Lollipop (5.0.2). I do not have a SIM card (which I've been told is hard to get in The Netherlands for a short time period), but will have wifi access.

I will have a very urgent need to receive a few SMS texts during December.

Bottom line: Is there any way I can receive an SMS on my Nexus 7? If the answer is yes, would someone please be kind enough to explain how, in words aimed at a total ignoramus?

    Thanks so much, Susan
