I lost app for text messages. how do I get it back?

Welcome to the forums. Could you give us more details? What device do you have? Is your phone rooted? If not, the stock messaging app can't be deleted and it could be just disabled or, maybe, you just removed the shortcut from the home screen. Just in case, search for that app on your app drawer and if you find it there just drag it to the screen.
