Can the ZTE Citrine (Z717VL) be rooted?

AC Question

I've seen links to iRoot and Kingoroot, but have also seen in other posts that those are not effective. Is there a way to 1-click root or would I need to unlock the bootloader? Is that even possible on this phone?

First, if they're not effective, it means that they just won't do anything. It takes a couple of minutes to download each and try it.

Second, any Linux-based device can be rooted, you just have to find a way to get temporary root (or find a program or an app that someone wrote that does get temporary root). All it takes is copying a file to a system area - which you can't do unless you're rooted.
