Locked Samsung S7 Android monthly security updates

A

AC Question

I was thinking to get an Optus (Australian carrier) Samsung S7 phone on a post-paid plan.
I wonder how the Android monthly security updates work: is it like in the US that phone owners have to wait the carrier to push them even when they're ready available for the unlocked version of that phone. Sometimes those US users have to wait months and months.. and to be honest I was planning to get a Samsung phone just for this regular updates (Motorola for example doesn't do them anymore or ofter they are very late). Thanks

Yes. If you're locked to optus, telstra etc, you have to wait till they push the updates. There is much weeping and wailing in the respective forums about this. Buy unlocked and you get the regional updates. My unlocked S7 has November update on it...
