sync error on google account

Getting "sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." This is on an android m8 4.4 tv box. Ive tried everything i.e. Time/date, force stopping google play store, new google account etc, but nothing seems to work. Please help

From my own experience, it's not necessarily anything to worry about, unless you're saying that it has persisted for a long time.
