Android alternative to iPod touch?

My wife has decided that she wants to get my daughter an iPod touch for Christmas and has put me in charge of figuring it out. She's only 7 years old and we have exactly zero iOS devices in my house. So I want to get her an Android version but I'm struggling to find one.

Right now I'm leaning to getting a Moto G phone, removing the sim card and adding a little extra memory, but I'm not very confident that will serve the purpose and is a bit more expensive than i hoped. So I'm hoping for some community ideas or recommendations on the cheap....

Just buy her a kid's tablet. They're relatively cheap.

Welcome to the forums. I think a Moto G or any other inexpensive Android would be fine. New iPods are $200, and the G should be less than that.
