why has the update on my tablet broken my tablet

hi, my son recently updated his tablet with the available update on his tablet, only now his tablet wont turn on! it just says command error, we have tried a hard reset with no luck, it just goes back to command error after trying to reboot it, is it a lost cause or is there hope? what can we do to fix it? thank you
