What is good external memory for an android tablet

We got a deal if we add a tablet, it lowers out bill with it so we got it. What i didnt realize with the system and stock apps it takes 11gb/16gb so i only have 4gb of free space to do with what i want. I discovered that if i add an micro sd card i can use it as internal memory, an extension or use it as an external removable memory. I know there are many brands and I have bought sandisk but have also seen samsung. I have my first samsung phone and was wondering which is better? Whether for the tablet or the phone.

That's weird. System+stock apps shouldn't reach 11GB. What tablet is this? Did it come from a carrier? Even a Samsung Galaxy Tab A (and Samsung is often accused of putting a lot of bloat) gives you more than 10GB of storage left on a 16GB device.
