Verizon's text messaging do not disturb sounds not working for custom list.

I am using verizon's text messaging feature. I have had problems off and on and generally find a fix but this one I haven't been able to. I use do not disturb with exceptions for favorites contacts. A couple weeks ago the sound notifications stopped. I don't think anything changed or updated. I went back to samsung message and it works. I like the Verizon messaging better but there always seems to be problems. Anyone have a fix for this?
