Cannot change ringtone. Only hear a single tone that repeats.

While attempting to free up space on my husbands phone, I deleted some files in the internal storage thinking I was in downloads. Now the incoming call ringtone is a single tone that repeats, no matter how many ways I try to change the ringtone. Please help!

What version of Android?
What carrier?
What are all the ways you have actually tried?

Thank you for responding. His phone is a Motorola Maxx 2. I don't know what you mean by version of Android. Verizon is our carrier. I have tried changing the ringtone from the settings menus and from the actual setting on the phone icon.
