Why do app-notifications not wake my screen?

A

AC Question

My current phone is a Huawei Honor 5X running Android 6.0.1

When recieving messages - either texts, in Messenger or Snapchat, I'd like for the screen to wake, instead of only having the small notification light turn on. I have given the various apps permission to show messages on the lockscreen, but the only app to wake the screen when recieving a message, is Snapchat, and even that only happens once in every 5-10 messages.

Can you point me in the right direction?

If your phone is in sleep mode, "doze" may not be letting these apps run.
See your phone settings about turning off "battery optimization" for these apps and see if that helps.

Welcome to Android Central! Not all phones wake the entire screen for notifications. I have an Honor 5X that I use only as a wi-fi device, but I've never seen the screen light up for notifications (and it also doesn't happen for any of my other phones, including a Nexus 6P, ASUS Zenfone 2, and Nexus 5). You can use a 3rd party app like DynamicNotifications.
