Tablet battery draining due to cell signal, not hooked up to data/cell!

My 7yo has an Ematic Funtab that he only uses for games. We don't have cell or data on it. I will occasionally let it on to WiFi to update games and such, but it spends 99% of the time in airplane mode.

I've noticed that there is a "Do Not Enter" type icon at the top right all of a sudden, and the battery is melting away. It lost 70% of its battery life this morning while on airplane mode and unused, after charging all night.

How can I turn off the cell service finder so that his tablet is actually usable?

That's possible if the battery is defective. However, he just bought it 10/2/16. I can't figure out how to post pics, but the battery usage shows that cell service is going the entire time, whether the tab is on or off.

Welcome to Android Central! Even if the device doesn't have a cell radio, there should still be an Airplane Mode option. Try turning that on. You can still toggle wi-fi on from within Airplane Mode when you need it.

Ok, show us some battery stats. Charge up to 100%, then let it drain to 20-30% with normal usage, without charging in between. Then show us:

1. The main Settings>Battery screen.
2. The fullscreen battery graph screen (which shows Awake time and Cell Signal Strength).
3. The Screen category (to see total Screen On time).
4. The Cell Standby category, if present (to see Time Without Signal).

You might have to install a 3rd party battery monitor, like GSam Battery Monitor, to get the Cell Signal Strength graph.

Hope this works. There is no cell standby data because this isn't a cell and isn't supposed to have a cell signal. This is correct to show that it went from 100% to 30% in 49 minutes.

The battery could be defective, or perhaps it had been returned by someone else? It ought to be under warranty, so you may want to contact the manufacturer.
