How to reduce Android device mbps overall

A

AC Question

On a new HD device (tablet, phone), is there an Android global setting to change the screen resolution and streaming from HD to a lower resolution in order to use the least mbps? For example, in Windows, all I reduce the screen resolution to the lowest numbers which enlarges text and reduces the mbps coming into the PC or laptop. It's a personal preference, and I hope there's a way to do this on an Android device.

Thanks,
Shirley

Depends on the app that does the streaming. AFAIK there's no global setting. Samsung did add one on thr Note 7 and will be sending it to thr S7 via update but if you're on a different device you're out of luck. You can root and do it, but not sure how that will affect the data. You're better off just adjusting the resolution in the app you're streaming through.

Adjusting the display resolution itself is not going to reduce the amount of data the phone consumes when downloading content. The main factor determining that is the resolution of the content you're streaming (480P, 720P, 1080). You can lower the screen resolution all you want but if you're watching a video that streams in 1080 it'll use the same amount of data.

The same applies on computers also, have you actually compared the data used before and after the resolution changes?
