Connection problems to TheCloud wifi network

Hi
I spend a fair amount of time in places like Caffe Nero between meetings (fewer students battering the wifi with Netflix compared to Starbucks!) and have never had any problems. Recently the Connectivity Service finally kicked in and whenever I try to connect to thecloud the phone just gets stuck in a loop of trying to connect, going to the log page, then dropping out and asking me to connect. I know it's not my account as my laptop connects automatically. I've tried forgetting the network, rebooting etc. and nothing works. Any ideas as to how to fix it or what lies behind the issues would be very welcome.
