Why am I only able to access my photos when my sim card is in my phone? Three and a half years ago I had done a factory reset on a phone I used to have and I forgot to save my photos in a safe place before I did the reset. I didn't realize that I was going to delete everything including my photos, but when I had put my sim card back in I was able to access all my past photos and videos, but when I took the sim card out, everything was gone. That kind of confused me because I thought sim cards couldn't hold photos and videos. I still have the phone, but I can't put the sim card back in because I had cut it to fit another phone. I wish I could see those photos and videos again. Does anyone have an explanation for why I could only see my photos when my sim card is in?

Perhaps they are saved in the cloud. Can you see them with WiFi and no sim?

Welcome to Android Central! Tim1954 is almost certainly correct. Assuming the photos were backed up to your Google Photos in the cloud, go to photos.google.com on your desktop browser -- do you see all of those photos there?
