Having problems using my phone keypad with automated menus

When I call my pharmacy I have to use their automated menu. I have to enter "1" to "refill a prescription. Next they want me to enter my prescription number but I can't get the "1" to go away so I can enter the scrip number which does now begin with a "1". How can I get that initial number 1 to go away?

Hi and welcome to Android Central.

It shouldn't be necessary to get the 1 to go away. Just typing the next numbers and then # or * if needed should work.
