Why can't i get rid of the lock screen tint?

I have a Sony Xperia Z3V (verizon specific). I love the phone, except for the fact that it gets Android OS updates waaay behind schedule. I'm operating Lollipop (5.1.1). I have a vibrant green image chosen for my lock screen wallpaper and whenever I wake up the phone to the lock screen, it has this shameful tint over the image, destroying the vibrant color. I've read threads about switching unlock to swipe, then changing the swipe effect and then changing back to pattern or pin or whatever and it should go away. Problem is I don't have any option for a swipe effect when I set that as my unlock method. Help!!
