How to lock phone

I got my phone reset 1 day ago, now my phone is not accepting password or patterns. It is not accepting any screen lock. Whether I put password or lock it remains unlock. It is not getting locked. What should I do? I want to put password on it

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? Does it remain unlocked no matter how long you wait? Check your Automatically Lock setting (usually in Settings>Display or Settings>Security), which is how long the phone will wait after the screen turns off before the phone gets locked again. If your interval is set to a long one (like 30 minutes, for example), then your screen lock won't appear until the screen has been off for 30 minutes straight.
