Why does my sd card seem to be unused?

And now to the "dead horse" Dept. I've got an alcatel A564C running Android 4.4.2.. Storage space is only 2 GB and a 14 GB memory card is installed. It shows up on the storage inventory so the device knows it's there but the phone doesn't appear to use it for anything. The main memory is almost full with just a handful of app's. None of the apps display an option to move them to the SD card, but that may just be because their manufacturers don't support that feature. Is there something I'm missing regarding implementation of this memory expansion or am I just trying to race in my grandfather's Buick???

Yes, sadly you are left behind in the Buick! With the 2Gig you are severely limited in the app department...

The SD card is good for storing your pictures, movies, music, and documents.
The apps get installed on the internal storage.
