I installed 7.0 android version but it's still running on 6.0.1

I am using the Samsung Galaxy J7 2016. Today I installed andorid version 7.0 and it went through the whole version update like allways. But this time after the phone restarted it was still running on 6.0.1. Why is it so?

I'm not sure you got the Nougat update as I'm not sure it's actually been released yet for that device. Do you recall how big the download was? Do you see a line in your system info that reports the security patch version? I have a feeling what you got was actually what is supposed to be a monthly security update (though Samsung doesn't feel a need to actually release them monthly).

The update was about 300MB big.

Welcome. A 300 MB update is not a new OS version, it was likely the security patches.
