How do you remove the back to access battery so it may be replaced

Not sure what device you have. Most modern phones are glued together, so you have to melt the glue to get the backs off. Likes of the galaxy phones are made of glass, front and back so it's very easy to break them.
I would take it to a repair shop personally.
However, there are YouTube videos aplenty if you want to do the job yourself.. Bear in mind that warranty will not cover any mishaps if you do that.
