Why is my media volume eternally off?

[AC Question]

My media volume is not working whatsoever, I have tried going into the settings to use the slider but its grayed out so i have no control there are no background apps running and I have tried rebooting nothing is working though. I updated yesterday and i believe it has something to do with it since i had not tried to play any music last night but before i updated it the media volume worked fine. Help?
