I have a cheap Chinese Android phone which has given me good service over the past 4 years. Last week the microSD card suddenly died. My Windows PC couldn't mend it so I replaced it. Today the replacement failed in exactly the same way. I put it down to dud cards. However, I loaded up my data onto a third card (different make) put it in the phone and it wiped all the data (although files called uuuuuuuu.uuu appeared in "Lost Folders".

OK, so it's time for a new phone - but I'd be interested in the mechanism that turns a friendly phone into a flash eater.

Update: I've managed to rescue the dead SD card using the formatter downloadable from the SD Association site. The data transfer rate reminds me of 5.25 inch floppy disks, but at least it's usable.

Another update: The card now seems to be up to speed. I did a factory reset on the phone and put everything back together and all seems to be working well - until the next time. (The new phone's on order)

There might be a problem with the SD reader on the phone.
