Can't open messaging app

[AC Question]

Yesterday, my Samsung phone was having trouble loading my messaging app. It was quite slow to open. I thought it might be too full, so I deleted a bunch of old messages that I don't need. That seems to have made it worse. It was taking longer and longer to open. Now, it opens but I get a blank screen and eventually, a window pops up asking if I want to report, wait or close messaging. I have tried all three. I have also tried shutting down and removing the battery for a few minutes. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Welcome to Android Central! Go to the App Manager, select the Messaging app, and Clear Cache. If that doesn't help, you can also Clear Data, but I'm not sure if that will also delete any saved message threads.
