I have a prepaid samsung galaxy J3. these phones come with very little storge. It has a slot for a sim card. When I try to use a sim card, it holds extra storage...but for photos only. Can I use a sim card for apps and other functions on this phone?

Welcome to Android Central! No you can't. The phone should have a microSD card slot, though, so you could use one of those to store media files (like photos, videos, and music) and documents. You wouldn't be able to install apps directly to the microSD card, though, since Samsung doesn't support Adoptable Storage. You might be able to use the Move to SD feature (in Settings>Apps Manager), which moves a portion of an app to the SD card, but not all phones support this.
